I am a cognitive scientist curious about how we build our inner worlds: how we turn our mind’s wanderings into wonders, how the process of meaning making relates to creative thinking, and how art, other people and, increasingly, AI shape the way we think and feel. As a current Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow, my project explores whether creative thinking can be reverse engineered by guiding where and how people mind-wander. I am conducting this research at UC Berkeley within the Institute for Personality and Social Research (IPSR) and the École normale supérieure in Paris within the Cognitive Science and Psycholinguistics Laboratory (LSCP). I also bring insights from creative cognition to AI alignment, as a research advisor to Princeton’s Safe Robotics Lab and a research collaborator with Berkeley’s Center for Human-Compatible AI. Together with my colleagues, we explore what it would take for AI to support human thinking rather than replace it, approaching alignment as a bi-directional calibration between people and machines. I share my work in many ways: lecturing in California and Europe, giving workshops, curating exhibitions, writing articles, and consulting for tech developers, designers and artists.
